Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent with a sobering but hope-filled reminder: we are dust, and to dust we shall return. Pastor Eric reflects on the fleeting beauty of life using the image of Southern California’s green hills that quickly fade, pointing us to Scripture’s teaching that human life is brief. Yet this day is not only about death — it is about the One who conquered it. Through Christ’s cross and resurrection, our sins are forgiven and our dust will one day be raised to new life. As ashes are placed in the sign of the cross, we remember both our mortality and the eternal life won for us in Jesus.
